Virginia State Line: Welcome Sign

What better way to get a photo of the Virginia welcome sign than with your lover? Back in October 2016, on Sweetest Day to be exact, Kris and I took a trip to hike Virginia’s Devil’s Bathtub. This is the first time I got a photo with a state welcome sign and when my obsession began. Since then, I’ve gotten my photo with other state line welcome signs and am slowly adding to my collection each year.
This was also the first photo I took with a selfie stick. I mean, look how professional it is… 😂

- Population – 8.68 million (2022), 12th most populated
- Tenth state to be added to the Union (06/25/1778)
- 35th largest state
- Median household 80k
- Nickname: the Old Dominion. This comes from Virginia being the first permanent English colony in the New World (Jamestown).
- One of the original 13 colonies
- Anthem: Our Great Virginia
- Dog – American Foxhound
- The quote, “Give me liberty, or give me death” comes from Virginia

- More United States presidents were born in Virginia than in any other state, with eight calling Virginia their birthplace.
- Symbol – mermaid. Mermaids, long used to represent the area’s nautical history, can now be found on streets and buildings throughout the city. You’ll even see them on official city communication.
